Q&A with Ms. Donna

Tell us about your experience working with young children?

Caring for children is something that has always come naturally to me, from my siblings to family members to neighbors, even winning a motherly award at the young age of 8. I have always been nurturing to others, and people say my personality exudes that. I have two children of my own, a Girl and Boy (born 2009 and 2010) and they have been the light of my life. I graduated from college in 2015 with High Honors, becoming a member of Phi Theta Kappa, and was granted the Certificate of Outstanding Achievement. Upon graduation, I got a job in a childcare center and fell in love with the children! It was there I stayed for 6 years, working as the Lead Teacher in their Infant classroom and certified as an Early HeadStart teacher for the past 3. I am currently still taking classes and am working towards my Director's Certification. Only one class to go! My favorite thing about caring for children is to watch them grow and learn. The wonder in their eyes amazes me! That has been the highlight for me throughout my life's history of caring for children. People have said that I create an environment that is nurturing and calm. I focus on learning through play, and I especially love to see them start to walk, and talk.

What are the key areas of focus at your daycare?

I want the children in my program to be engaged, learn social communication, and have fun. I have a schedule, but it is flexible to allow children's interests and needs to determine what happens next. I am trained in child-directed play and responsive scheduling. Usually, days begin with drop off and free play and may include morning snack, circle time, and motor skills development. One of my favorite times of each day is storytime, where we can work on our cognitive development and listening skills, during the most relaxing time of the day. I am so grateful to parents for trusting me with their children! I want all families to know that their child will receive lots of love and care while they are here with me, and the extra education I provide is always a bonus :)

Can you tell us a bit about your home environment?

My program takes place in the main classroom area of my Stoughton home, where the children can find toys for all ages and a special place designed just for them. I want the children to feel at home here, so the space is child-friendly and inviting, with designated areas for changing, circle time, projects, eating, and dramatic play. The children also have access to my backyard, which is completely surrounded by a fence. I live on a very quiet street and would also love to take them for walks in the stroller if the occasion permits. Come take a tour with me, and see if my program is right for you :)

Ms. Donna is an amazing teacher/childcare provider, my son was in her class at just a young age of 3 months old, all the way up to 15 months old when he transition to toddlers. My little one had quite the health issues and as a mom it was very hard to bring him to daycare everyday so I can work knowing he was a severe asthmatic, who had RSV 2x, but Ms. Donna and the other staff of his room made me feel so at ease because they provided the best care for him day in and day out. She treated him and all the other little ones as her own. I would call all hours of the day to check on him and she and the other staff were always right there to take my call and give me a run down of his day. I would spend my lunch breaks daily with him in his room and they welcomed me everyday with no hesitation. Ms Donna is so amazing and would recommend her care to everyone.

Here is my testimonial for Ms. Donna’s NeighborSchool: I've always been sceptical about leaving my kids in the care of anyone license or not because I've heard so many stories. Well, when I met Ms Donna all that changes. Ms Donna is the most caring person that I've come across to take care of my daughter. She went above and beyond to see that all her babies are cared for and yes, I said all her babies, because she cared for them like they were her very own. My daughter loves Ms Donna immensely and didn't want to leave her. Ms Donna not only care about the kids but the parents also, she has a very big heart. For all who needs someone to care for your children,Ms Donna is the right person. ❤Thanks Ms Donna much love from the Cameron family.

Ms. Donna has been taking care of my son since he was four weeks old. She has played a big part in my sons development. Ms. Donna is very attentive to my son and it shows she truly cares about him. I have also worked alongside her for three years in a childcare center. I have seen her being able to multitask and meet the needs of each child successfully. Ms. Donna is loving to all the children and is able to help each child individually to meet their milestones. I have enjoyed working with her and will be sad to see her leave the center. She is an asset to any classroom she is in. I would recommend Ms. Donna to anyone who is looking for a home daycare to send their child!

I have had the pleasure of working alongside Ms. Donna for several years. She is an amazing teacher with a loving heart that radiates through the classroom. Her passion for caring for children is evident by the adoration they show her. She goes above and beyond to make sure her babies are cared for. While she will be missed, I know the care she will continue to provide will be an amazing asset to any family that chooses to attend her program. I would absolutely recommend her services to anyone seeking childcare.

Ms. Donna has watched my son several times in the 10 years I have known her. She is one of the most caring individuals I have met. My son adores her. He is on the autism spectrum and has anxiety. She has always made him feel safe and supported in her presence. While she made expectations clear, she also made him know his feelings were respected and validated. He is older now but we still visit her often. I highly recommend her as a provider. Caring for children is her calling.

Ms. Donna is one of sweetest, most kind hearted people I know. I have known her since our daughters were babies, almost 12 years ago. She has looked after my kids many times and they absolutely adore her! She has two wonderful children of her own that prove just how amazing of a mother she is. The patience and love she has for children is admirable, and it truly shows that she has found her calling. I would highly recommend Ms. Donna to anyone looking for childcare!

Rates & Openings

Daycare rates depend on how old your child will be and what your schedule looks like. 5 days / week might get a slight discount, and infant rates are usually more than toddlers’. Finding a spot also depends on age and schedule because each daycare has a limited number of openings for each age range.

FAQs

Your family is unique to you, but some of your questions might not be. 😉 Here’s what most parents want to know when starting out.

What is NeighborSchools?

Hey there, nice to meet you 👋 We’re a new-ish startup that helps new-ish parents find daycare.

We know how hard finding good child care can be - especially for first-time parents. But really good care is what gives you the peace of mind to go back to work and feel confident that your child is getting the stimulation, socialization, and support they need to learn and grow.

So we created NeighborSchools to make this piece of parenthood a whole lot easier. We say “easier” because, let’s be honest, it’s still a big thing to figure out, but working together we can help you find some good options, understand the whole process, and choose a program you’ll feel really good about.

Most first-time parents don’t know exactly what they’re looking for, so we created a simple survey that will ask you questions about your lifestyle, your daily routines, and your preferences for child care. We’ll then share 3 personalized recommendations that we think might be a good fit. We’ll also give you a timeline that maps out when we would suggest you start touring programs, choose a daycare, and pay a deposit to secure a spot. Your timeline is based on when you want to start care - so you set the pace, and you decide when you’ve found the right match.

Nope. Our daycare recommendation service is free for parents. The other half of our business is helping these small-scale daycares with software and services that handle all their administrative tasks, like online contracting, payment processing, and licensing requirements. Before NeighborSchools, services like these were only designed for large corporate child care centers, and part of our mission is to level the playing field for small, independent child care programs. That’s why we picked the name NeighborSchools - we’re all about making child care more personal, more human, and more equitable for the incredible individuals who do this work and care for our children.

Generally, if you’re here, you’re ready. The survey lets us give you 3 recommendations to consider, but it’ll also help you better understand what factors to consider, and what questions to be asking right now. It’s simple things like where you live, your child’s date of birth, when you want to start care, and if you have any preferences around program philosophy or language of instruction. If you’re planning 6+ months ahead, it’s a great way to get started, and if you’re hoping to start daycare in the next 2-4 months, it’s definitely time to get started. Click here to start the survey.

Each program has a limited number of spots for each age range, so we need to know your schedule and child’s age before we can share availability. The survey covers these basics, as well as factors like drop-off and pick-up times to make sure that recommended programs fit your daily routine. Once we know your child’s age and schedule we can share rates and costs as well.

More questions? Text or email - we’re here to help.

We’re online Monday - Friday from 8am to 6pm Eastern.
