Q&A with Ms. Shilpa

Tell us about your experience working with young children?

I have over 15 years of experience working with children and am excited for many more ahead! After completing a Master’s degree in Home Science Specialization in Extension Education in 1999, I was an owner and Director of a Toddler Preschool Center for 3 years. I then earned my Early Childhood Education Certification as Lead Teacher for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. I also worked as a substitute teacher in public schools in Foxborough, Walpole, and Sharon for a year, before getting a great opportunity to work in Early Intervention as a Group Coordinator and Lead Teacher for babies and toddlers for 3 years. While there, I worked on case studies and did assessments and evaluations. I also got certified as a Development Specialist through the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. It was always my dream ton pursue my own family child care program. Since the time of my master’s, I knew it was my goal. After gaining experience in the field and taking EEC credit courses, I got my EEC license in 2018 and was very excited to open my family child care program in my home setting. I have always focused on my dream of working with children and making an impact on their little minds to nurture learning through fun-based activities. Within my therapeutic environment for playing and learning, I treasure helping the children transition to being independent. What could be better than a day that begins and ends with a smile!

What are the key areas of focus at your daycare?

When the children are under my care, the first thing is safety. Safety and health are most important, because what is the point if they children are not secure and happy? I provide a healthy environment of learning through therapeutic play. I strive to teach the children kindness, sharing, and taking turns being independent, along with the fundamental areas of learning. being a Development Specialist, these core areas of learning: emotional, social, cognitive, fine and gross motor skills, and sensory are a main focus of the learning domain, fun based age appropriate learning that we do daily. I truly believe we have a unique blend of fun and learning environment that every child love to explore My program gives parents peace of mind. There is no stress here for parents or children. Each family feels confident in having their child in my home and know that everything their child is learning is going to stay with them for the long term. They’re learning the age-appropriate development skills along with care and compassion.

Can you tell us a bit about your home environment?

The children are at a precious age and are huge explorers. We respect and safe guard each child with emotional support with compassion and creativity. My home is colorful and bright with all the safety requirements and lot of fun based activities for children with therapeutic learning environment . The activities and curriculum are a blend of the five domains of development with age appropriate learning .We have circle time, music time, free play, sensory time with the water, snow, or sand , quality toys ,We reinforce lot of book readings children love it .We have building, blocks, Play dough, many tools and technique for Gross Motor . My favorite area is our Art area with all the Supplies. I have also a fenced-in backyard that we enjoy weather-permitting. We also create environment which promote Social, emotional, physical, intellectual growth program where children feel free to explore and learn

Reviews & References

Here’s the inside scoop from other parents that have worked with Ms. Shilpa.

Jolly Joy Playschool is the first daycare my daughter attended. As a first time mom, it was so difficult for me to trust someone else to take care of my daughter. I knew my child was in good hands as soon as I met Shilpa. She is a loving individual who really cares about kids. She provides home cooked meals which is an added plus. And sends pictures/videos of your child on request. My daughter is a free-spirited and stubborn little girl (takes after me :p), who blatantly refused to let me or my husband tie her hair. She let Shilpa tie it, and there was no going back after that, and for that I will be eternally grateful. She also started eating her meals by herself. We had to switch daycares as we moved slightly further away, but my daughter still talks about Ms. Shilpa and her friends at her old daycare.

Our grandson, now 21 months old, has been attending JollyJoy Daycare for 10 months now and our experience has been excellent. Our grandson is very comfortable with Shilpa and the environment and he has been making good progress. He starts his day with a smile when he arrives and that says it all.

Rates & Openings

Daycare rates depend on how old your child will be and what your schedule looks like. 5 days / week might get a slight discount, and infant rates are usually more than toddlers’. Finding a spot also depends on age and schedule because each daycare has a limited number of openings for each age range.

Let’s find a really good daycare for you

Get your own recommendations based on your preferences, daily routine, and what matters most to you.

Your family is unique to you, but some of your questions might not be. 😉 Here’s what most parents want to know when starting out.

What is NeighborSchools?

Hey there, nice to meet you 👋 We’re a new-ish startup that helps new-ish parents find daycare.

We know how hard finding good child care can be - especially for first-time parents. But really good care is what gives you the peace of mind to go back to work and feel confident that your child is getting the stimulation, socialization, and support they need to learn and grow.

So we created NeighborSchools to make this piece of parenthood a whole lot easier. We say “easier” because, let’s be honest, it’s still a big thing to figure out, but working together we can help you find some good options, understand the whole process, and choose a program you’ll feel really good about.

Most first-time parents don’t know exactly what they’re looking for, so we created a simple survey that will ask you questions about your lifestyle, your daily routines, and your preferences for child care. We’ll then share 3 personalized recommendations that we think might be a good fit. We’ll also give you a timeline that maps out when we would suggest you start touring programs, choose a daycare, and pay a deposit to secure a spot. Your timeline is based on when you want to start care - so you set the pace, and you decide when you’ve found the right match.

Nope. Our daycare recommendation service is free for parents. The other half of our business is helping these small-scale daycares with software and services that handle all their administrative tasks, like online contracting, payment processing, and licensing requirements. Before NeighborSchools, services like these were only designed for large corporate child care centers, and part of our mission is to level the playing field for small, independent child care programs. That’s why we picked the name NeighborSchools - we’re all about making child care more personal, more human, and more equitable for the incredible individuals who do this work and care for our children.

Generally, if you’re here, you’re ready. The survey lets us give you 3 recommendations to consider, but it’ll also help you better understand what factors to consider, and what questions to be asking right now. It’s simple things like where you live, your child’s date of birth, when you want to start care, and if you have any preferences around program philosophy or language of instruction. If you’re planning 6+ months ahead, it’s a great way to get started, and if you’re hoping to start daycare in the next 2-4 months, it’s definitely time to get started. Click here to start the survey.

Each program has a limited number of spots for each age range, so we need to know your schedule and child’s age before we can share availability. The survey covers these basics, as well as factors like drop-off and pick-up times to make sure that recommended programs fit your daily routine. Once we know your child’s age and schedule we can share rates and costs as well.

More questions? Text, email, or - we’re here to help.

We’re online Monday - Friday from 8am to 6pm Eastern.
