Q&A with Ms. Petrice

Tell us about your experience working with young children?

I have a deep love for working with children and seek to provide the highest quality of care for them. I absolutely love watching the kiddos grow! Every single hour with them is different. Within our daily routines, they are constantly learning and developing new habits. I care for each individual child as if he or she were my own. Children have so much love within them that it’s impossible not to love them and want to give them the best education and care possible. Whatever mood I might be in, the kids immediately make everything feel full of light and joy. It is an honor to nurture the kids through the developmental stages and the rewards are endless for both the children and me. I’m also very attentive to the needs of parents and do everything I can to make their days easier. I want parents to feel relaxed and happy knowing their child is in my care. It is my duty and privilege to teach children through play and help them develop all of the emotional, cognitive, social, and physical skills they need. I not only want to prepare them for school, but also set them up for a successful night when they leave my program each day and return home.

What are the key areas of focus at your daycare?

I strive to bring the highest quality of nurturing care to my program and plan to do so for many years to come. My mother is a certified assistant for the program, so the children are well watched over and their needs are always met. Our levels of care are split between the younger and older children. For infants, we make sure they are clean and in a whole new outfit when the parents come to pick up for the day. The goal is that they’re ready for bed by pick up time, so that family time at the end of the day can be calm and enjoyed fully. We also have parents bring in everything the child needs for the week on Monday to reduce stress. No more worrying every single morning what needs to be brought, because it’s already here! For the older children, we have more interactive activities to ensure that they’re learning a wide variety of topics while developing their sensory, fine and gross motor, social and emotional skills and more. We have plants the children water, an aquarium where the children feed fish and observe their swimming, and we also bake. I let the children be free with artwork to allow them to explore fully their creative expression. Another important element during our day-to-day is dance time. The children look forward to dancing and it’s a great way to exercise the kids. I am also a part of a food program, so I provide free meals for breakfast, lunch, and 2 snacks. I feel it is my responsibility to be attentive to the needs of parents as well as the children. The program hours are from 7am to 5pm and we also have after-hours available if necessary from 5pm to 7pm. We are also open on Saturdays if there is need. As I mentioned before, I try to make it as easy as possible for parents for pick up and drop off. I was a working parent too and understand the difficulties that can come from arranging child care. In addition, each child has a communication folder and each day the parents receive a daily report sheet so they are in the loop about exactly how their child’s day went!

Can you tell us a bit about your home environment?

We have a whole area in my home dedicated to the program that is split in half for the older and younger children. There is a separate napping area as well as different areas for various activities. We have an art area with paint, crayons, and more. We also have a learning area that has age appropriate learning materials. We focus on small developmental goals using a variety of toys, where the children can learn their abcs, colors, shapes, and more. Outside, I have a fenced-in yard with a large play area for the children. We also venture out to a nearby park called Ridgewood Park. The neighborhood I live in is very safe and quiet, a perfect environment for the young children to spend their days.

Here’s the inside scoop from other parents that have worked with Ms. Petrice.

Toddler World Child Care is great! I felt like a new mom starting over again after 7 years - I had a new baby and getting back to work sooner rather than later was necessary for my family this time around. My son joined Petrice at the day care at 7 months old and absolutely loves it. I was nervous at first but she was very inviting and made us feel comfortable and I knew he would be well taken care of. Toddler World Childcare is a great learning experience with lots of fun, and they truly take care of the kids as if they were family.

I am a new mother and have been sending my now 6 month old daughter to Toddler World since she was 3 months old. It’s only been a short amount of time, but Petrice and everyone there are amazing! I know my baby is in great hands being there. They treat every child as if they were their own. It’s such a clean, nurturing, fun, loving and kid friendly environment. It’s a great place to send your child for them to grow and learn. I am very happy and satisfied with Toddler World and so glad this is the daycare we chose!

My son and daughter have been going to toddler world for the past 7 months and love it there. They take care and love my kids like their own. I would recommend this center to anyone that I know, because it's not just a daycare for my kids they have become like family and that's the best feeling knowing my kids are well taken care of.

Rates & Openings

Daycare rates depend on how old your child will be and what your schedule looks like. 5 days / week might get a slight discount, and infant rates are usually more than toddlers’. Finding a spot also depends on age and schedule because each daycare has a limited number of openings for each age range.

Your family is unique to you, but some of your questions might not be. 😉 Here’s what most parents want to know when starting out.

What is NeighborSchools?

Hey there, nice to meet you 👋 We’re a new-ish startup that helps new-ish parents find daycare.

We know how hard finding good child care can be - especially for first-time parents. But really good care is what gives you the peace of mind to go back to work and feel confident that your child is getting the stimulation, socialization, and support they need to learn and grow.

So we created NeighborSchools to make this piece of parenthood a whole lot easier. We say “easier” because, let’s be honest, it’s still a big thing to figure out, but working together we can help you find some good options, understand the whole process, and choose a program you’ll feel really good about.

Most first-time parents don’t know exactly what they’re looking for, so we created a simple survey that will ask you questions about your lifestyle, your daily routines, and your preferences for child care. We’ll then share 3 personalized recommendations that we think might be a good fit. We’ll also give you a timeline that maps out when we would suggest you start touring programs, choose a daycare, and pay a deposit to secure a spot. Your timeline is based on when you want to start care - so you set the pace, and you decide when you’ve found the right match.

Nope. Our daycare recommendation service is free for parents. The other half of our business is helping these small-scale daycares with software and services that handle all their administrative tasks, like online contracting, payment processing, and licensing requirements. Before NeighborSchools, services like these were only designed for large corporate child care centers, and part of our mission is to level the playing field for small, independent child care programs. That’s why we picked the name NeighborSchools - we’re all about making child care more personal, more human, and more equitable for the incredible individuals who do this work and care for our children.

Generally, if you’re here, you’re ready. The survey lets us give you 3 recommendations to consider, but it’ll also help you better understand what factors to consider, and what questions to be asking right now. It’s simple things like where you live, your child’s date of birth, when you want to start care, and if you have any preferences around program philosophy or language of instruction. If you’re planning 6+ months ahead, it’s a great way to get started, and if you’re hoping to start daycare in the next 2-4 months, it’s definitely time to get started. Click here to start the survey.

Each program has a limited number of spots for each age range, so we need to know your schedule and child’s age before we can share availability. The survey covers these basics, as well as factors like drop-off and pick-up times to make sure that recommended programs fit your daily routine. Once we know your child’s age and schedule we can share rates and costs as well.

More questions? Text or email - we’re here to help.

We’re online Monday - Friday from 8am to 6pm Eastern.
