Q&A with Ms. Elba

Tell us about your experience working with young children?

For more than 20 years, I have worked with children in some capacity or another, including as a preschool teacher and a Spanish teacher at a private school. Some of the young people I once taught are now in college, and nothing makes me happier than hearing from them and seeing how the skills I taught them and qualities I helped instill in them have taken them into adulthood. As a mother and a grandmother, I am very family-oriented. The families who join the program become part of my own. The children I care for call me “Titi” (“Auntie” in Spanish)—and even once they have moved on from my care, their families know they are always welcome to come and visit Titi’s house. I want all children to feel completely comfortable in my home—I love to see them be happy and feel like themselves. If all of “my babies” are good, I’m better.

What are the key areas of focus at your daycare?

When children learn in their own way they learn for life. Bright Beginnings Bilingual Program is committed in helping and guiding children to develop positive self-concept, enhance creativity, and enrich their own life socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. We recognize the importance of Play in a child’s life, and we give them the freedom to try new ideas, develop their skills, and form friendships in a safe and supportive environment. To help each child reach their full potential, activities are tailored to their own individual needs and interests, and combine play with cognitive activity. Favorite activities have included planting a garden and watching it grow over time, which not only teaches about the process of nature but also encourages patience and curiosity. In addition to teaching the basics, like letters, numbers and shapes, we place a lot of emphasis on developing each child’s social-emotional skills. As educators, we learn what makes each child happy and what helps each of them to feel comfortable learning and exploring freely. We teach them how to advocate for themselves and how to be a good friend to others. Our goal is to provide each child with the ingredients he or she needs to build a solid base and become a lifelong learner.

Can you tell us a bit about your home environment?

Our space is warm and welcoming, with plenty of room for reading, arts and crafts, and other activities. We also make great use of our neighborhood. A nearby soccer field offers a new adventure every day. There, we explore nature and use our imaginations to create stories about the things we observe, like the river, leaves and flowers. We practice our life skills and manners in public with occasional visits to the neighborhood pizzeria or other public places.

Words cannot express the gratitude our family has for the Bright Beginnings Bilingual Program (BBBP), which has been a part of our family for almost five years. We are grateful to have had all three of our children attend the program, with our eldest child attending since she was four months old. BBBP offers a vibrant educational experience. Elba and staff provide a safe environment with loving care and high-quality interactions. Each child is viewed as an individual, with their own strengths and needs. The kids have access to diverse activities and projects. My kids are happy and engaged in learning and development because of the experiences they had at BBBP. When I was a first-time parent, the most important thing was making sure I found the right place where I was comfortable dropping off my child every day. After all, as a parent, you are entrusting your greatest blessing in the hands of your childcare provider. Elba is communicative and eager to be a partner with each parent in caring for and educating their child.

Elba's daycare program has helped my daughter evolve and excel in so many different ways. Having a baby in the pandemic was very difficult considering she was very isolated the first year and wasn’t around many “outside” people besides family. So daycare was huge for her development. Elba has been so loving towards my daughter to the point where she doesn’t want to leave daycare some days! I was nervous about daycare at first but she has made it such a great experience. Between getting pictures throughout the day or just letting me know how she’s doing. I trust Elba 100%. I can go on with my day without being worried or hoping she’s okay. Elba has made this experience so easy for me and my daughter. I love that she is my daughters teacher and has grown so much since she started. She has learned so much and is growing into such a bright and happy girl. I’m so thankful for her! Wouldn’t trust anyone to be around her as much as I trust Elba with my daughter! Very greatful to have her teaching and caring for my child! :)

I couldn’t say enough good things about Elba and BBB program. We relocated from India and my 2 year old daughter can not speak or understand English. We were worried how she will thrive in her first day care. Though short, in our time with Elba, my daughter loved her and learnt communicating better. Elba always took time to tell us how Saanvi’s day went and we all loved her. The house is very spacious with lot of indoor and outdoor play area. Saanvi loved the lunch and snacks at the care. We really wish we could spend more time at her care but need to relocate to the other side of the city. We recommend Elba and BBB strongly to all parents looking for a loving and all play based care.

Elba has the best home daycare, sorry it is not a daycare it is a home for your child, where your kids are going to be love, spoiled, treated with good care and kindness. This daycare will become the first home for your child. Children will learn how to share and to play with other kids. They eat healthy and nutritious food and they get potty train. Elba will become your child’s grandmother, my son called her mama Elba. He loves her so much and missed her so badly. Elba took him in when he was two, I am so grateful to find a person like her. I will never trust no one with my child than her.

My son has been under Elbas care since he was one and it was the best decision I ever made. I love the care and attention she provides to not only my son but to all the children in her program, she goes above and beyond for them. As a parent, it gives you great comfort to know your child is in good hands. This daycare has provided so much more than just care for my child it also provided an educational setting to help my son's development and for that I am very thankful and appreciative.

Rates & Openings

Daycare rates depend on how old your child will be and what your schedule looks like. 5 days / week might get a slight discount, and infant rates are usually more than toddlers’. Finding a spot also depends on age and schedule because each daycare has a limited number of openings for each age range.

FAQs

Your family is unique to you, but some of your questions might not be. 😉 Here’s what most parents want to know when starting out.

What is NeighborSchools?

Hey there, nice to meet you 👋 We’re a new-ish startup that helps new-ish parents find daycare.

We know how hard finding good child care can be - especially for first-time parents. But really good care is what gives you the peace of mind to go back to work and feel confident that your child is getting the stimulation, socialization, and support they need to learn and grow.

So we created NeighborSchools to make this piece of parenthood a whole lot easier. We say “easier” because, let’s be honest, it’s still a big thing to figure out, but working together we can help you find some good options, understand the whole process, and choose a program you’ll feel really good about.

Most first-time parents don’t know exactly what they’re looking for, so we created a simple survey that will ask you questions about your lifestyle, your daily routines, and your preferences for child care. We’ll then share 3 personalized recommendations that we think might be a good fit. We’ll also give you a timeline that maps out when we would suggest you start touring programs, choose a daycare, and pay a deposit to secure a spot. Your timeline is based on when you want to start care - so you set the pace, and you decide when you’ve found the right match.

Nope. Our daycare recommendation service is free for parents. The other half of our business is helping these small-scale daycares with software and services that handle all their administrative tasks, like online contracting, payment processing, and licensing requirements. Before NeighborSchools, services like these were only designed for large corporate child care centers, and part of our mission is to level the playing field for small, independent child care programs. That’s why we picked the name NeighborSchools - we’re all about making child care more personal, more human, and more equitable for the incredible individuals who do this work and care for our children.

Generally, if you’re here, you’re ready. The survey lets us give you 3 recommendations to consider, but it’ll also help you better understand what factors to consider, and what questions to be asking right now. It’s simple things like where you live, your child’s date of birth, when you want to start care, and if you have any preferences around program philosophy or language of instruction. If you’re planning 6+ months ahead, it’s a great way to get started, and if you’re hoping to start daycare in the next 2-4 months, it’s definitely time to get started. Click here to start the survey.

Each program has a limited number of spots for each age range, so we need to know your schedule and child’s age before we can share availability. The survey covers these basics, as well as factors like drop-off and pick-up times to make sure that recommended programs fit your daily routine. Once we know your child’s age and schedule we can share rates and costs as well.

More questions? Text or email - we’re here to help.

We’re online Monday - Friday from 8am to 6pm Eastern.
