Ms. Kettly opened her home daycare in Randolph back in 2003, after leaving her position as a branch manager in a bank. She decided to open her own daycare because she’d always loved children and wanted to return to working with them, as she’d taught in an elementary school for four years prior to working in a bank. Opening her home daycare was a huge joy for Ms. Kettly because she wanted to work with children and create something of her own.

Open communication and high-quality care make J & K Daycare an easy choice for parents to send their children! Open communication and high-quality care make J & K Daycare an easy choice for parents to send their children!

“I love working with children because they are so genuine and show me how easy life can be,” Ms. Kettly says. She explains a story of when she went to the beach with her grandson and within a few minutes, he’d made friends with another young boy nearby and they ended up playing together all day. “Why can’t more people be like that?” She says, laughing. “I draw insight from their playfulness, curiosity, and kindness and it inspires me to be as happy as a child is!”

One of the most valuable aspects for Ms. Kettly about her program is building relationships with the families. She enjoys supporting the community and having a positive impact on both parents and their children. It’s priceless to Kettly to have these strong bonds, where even years later and states away by now, she still receives postcards and updates from families. Kettly says her program isn’t about babysitting, she invests fully in the parents and the children to create a high quality environment of fun and learning.

During the program, Ms. Kettly and the kids are enjoying many activities, from free play, circle time, singing, dancing, playing with educational toys and having focused time on what the children are learning about at the time, whether it’s shapes, colors, or something else. Ms. Kettly has a large space with bright colors, stuffed animals, toys, puzzles, arts and crafts supplies, books, comfy chairs, along with a fenced-in backyard for outdoor time! In the backyard Kettly has a little playground for the kids to enjoy too. Outdoors, Ms. Kettly loves being with the children in nature and playing ball games. Inside, during circle time, they do a fun learning game that Ms. Kettly enjoys. The kids will ask her to be the teacher, and then once the lesson or story is over, the children switch and describe back to Ms. Kettly what they learned. This allows for interaction and learning!

Ms. Kettly strives to work hand-in-hand with parents so that they can raise the child in the best way possible. She gives insights to parents if necessary, and will always pass along new guidelines from the EEC. She feels that her relationships with parents makes her part of each family, and this brings a higher quality to her program. “I feel as if I’m part of their journey, not just a daycare! I love that parents can rely on me and the children love me.” One of the parents even had to call Ms. Kettly recently because a child wanted to see her so badly, but it was a weekend!

“I want parents to know that I’m focused on education as well as the emotional and physical development of their child. Every child is unique and requires a different methods of teaching, and so I get to know their child very well in order to bring the highest level of care.” Ms. Kettly’s program is about nurturing the children, and helping them to develop in all ways.

“I have a great feeling about NeighborSchools,” Ms. Kettly says. “I’m so excited that we get to spread awareness of what we do here at my program!” We’re excited to have Ms. Kettly in our network of providers as well!
