Esther is currently working hard to get her Family Child Care license with the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) in Massachusetts.

What is a Family Child Care License?

A Family Child Care license will allow Esther to legally operate a program out of her home. She must undergo a rigorous, state-mandated process, including:

  • A 3-part background check for every person in the household
  • Home inspection and unannounced visits from EEC Licensors at least once per year
  • 10+ hours of continuing education per year
  • Pediatric CPR & First Aid certification
  • Medication Administration training
  • Training in Safe Sleep, Childhood Health & Nutrition

Note: Little Sunshine Home Daycare partners with the local library and the Librarian visits twice a year to read stories for the kids during circle time. Schedule may vary due to the weather.

What is Licensed Family Child Care?

Licensed Family Child Care is when one experienced educator operates out of her or his home with a maximum program size of six to ten students.

To become licensed, a provider must go through:

  • 10+ hours of continuing education per year
  • Pediatric CPR & First Aid certification
  • Medication Administration training
  • Training in Safe Sleep, Childhood Health & Nutrition

NeighborSchools partners meet or exceed all EEC licensing requirements, and many have 10+ years of professional experience prior to opening their own program.
