Q&A with Ms. Zainab

What inspires you to care for young children?

Experience is so important when working with young people! Growing up in a blended family with lots of siblings and cousins, I’ve been surrounded by children of all ages since I was very young, and now have two kids of my own. Caring for children is truly like a second nature to me and I just cannot imagine doing anything else! My home daycare is a place where kids feel comfortable enough to be themselves and ask for what they need. We are a family, one that learns and grows together. The bonds that we build as the days go by are so special, and every child and family I work with means so much to me.

What’s a typical day like at your daycare?

A daycare program should be centered around the kids! My program is flexible, child-led, and special in so many ways! Some of the ways that we interact and have fun together are circle time, music and movement, and arts and crafts. The kids all love free play – where they can choose to explore something that interests or excites them. I incorporate lots of interesting and diverse activities into our routine – things like yoga, field trips, holiday parties – we even have an ice cream day every now and again! I come from a family that believes in holistic wellness practices, and this carries over into my program – we provide healthy halal meals for the kids during the day. I work hard to keep things fresh, fun, healthy, and positive – and this creates a wonderful environment for all types of children.

What’s one thing parents should know about your program?

It truly does take a village to raise a child, and I make sure that my little corner of that village is a welcoming space for all. My home is cozy and comfortable, and parents and caregivers are encouraged to take a break from their busy lives in our kitchen – where there is always coffee on and snacks waiting to be shared. These are some of the small ways that I build community in my home daycare. Education has always been important in my family, and when I was growing up, we helped a young girl who didn’t have her fair share of opportunity attend school and eventually go on to college. Being a positive force in the lives of others is something I learned from my family, and I love that I can do it in my own community through my home daycare program! Parents should know that I will always be there for them –during the ups and downs of everyday life or in times of need.

Here’s the inside scoop from other parents that have worked with Ms. Zainab.

Intelligent, caring, and responsible are a few words that come to mind when I think about Zainab. I have known her for 20 years and growing up, I always felt welcome in her home. It’s no surprise that she wants to open a day care because she is truly an extraordinary person who cares for and treats everyone from adults to children like family. Zainab’s nurturing and kind personality always makes me feel comfortable leaving my two children (2 year old and 8 month old) in her care. She attends to their needs, while also engaging them in fun and creative activities. Not only do they enjoy their time with her, they also love and respect her as an authoritative figure. I trust Zainab and am confident in her ability to care for children in a family daycare setting, while also maintaining an enriching environment for a child’s growth and development.

A nurturing and safe environment where any parent can feel safe leaving their child. We have had a wonderful experience. Highly recommended!

Loved how nice and clean the place was. Full of great toys and activities for kids. The care provider was also really warm and welcoming!

Rates & Openings

Daycare rates depend on how old your child will be and what your schedule looks like. 5 days / week might get a slight discount, and infant rates are usually more than toddlers’. Finding a spot also depends on age and schedule because each daycare has a limited number of openings for each age range.

Let’s find a really good daycare for you

Your family is unique to you, but some of your questions might not be. 😉 Here’s what most parents want to know when starting out.

What is NeighborSchools?

Hey there, nice to meet you 👋 We’re a new-ish startup that helps new-ish parents find daycare.

We know how hard finding good child care can be - especially for first-time parents. But really good care is what gives you the peace of mind to go back to work and feel confident that your child is getting the stimulation, socialization, and support they need to learn and grow.

So we created NeighborSchools to make this piece of parenthood a whole lot easier. We say “easier” because, let’s be honest, it’s still a big thing to figure out, but working together we can help you find some good options, understand the whole process, and choose a program you’ll feel really good about.

Most first-time parents don’t know exactly what they’re looking for, so we created a simple survey that will ask you questions about your lifestyle, your daily routines, and your preferences for child care. We’ll then share 3 personalized recommendations that we think might be a good fit. We’ll also give you a timeline that maps out when we would suggest you start touring programs, choose a daycare, and pay a deposit to secure a spot. Your timeline is based on when you want to start care - so you set the pace, and you decide when you’ve found the right match.

Nope. Our daycare recommendation service is free for parents. The other half of our business is helping these small-scale daycares with software and services that handle all their administrative tasks, like online contracting, payment processing, and licensing requirements. Before NeighborSchools, services like these were only designed for large corporate child care centers, and part of our mission is to level the playing field for small, independent child care programs. That’s why we picked the name NeighborSchools - we’re all about making child care more personal, more human, and more equitable for the incredible individuals who do this work and care for our children.

Generally, if you’re here, you’re ready. The survey lets us give you 3 recommendations to consider, but it’ll also help you better understand what factors to consider, and what questions to be asking right now. It’s simple things like where you live, your child’s date of birth, when you want to start care, and if you have any preferences around program philosophy or language of instruction. If you’re planning 6+ months ahead, it’s a great way to get started, and if you’re hoping to start daycare in the next 2-4 months, it’s definitely time to get started. Click here to start the survey.

Each program has a limited number of spots for each age range, so we need to know your schedule and child’s age before we can share availability. The survey covers these basics, as well as factors like drop-off and pick-up times to make sure that recommended programs fit your daily routine. Once we know your child’s age and schedule we can share rates and costs as well.

More questions? Text, email, or - we’re here to help.

We’re online Monday - Friday from 8am to 6pm Eastern.
