Q&A with Ms. Amy

Tell us about your experience working with young children?

I have been working with children since I was in elementary school when I was a Mother’s Helper for the first time. There I learned how to properly care for a child, from diapers and play to best practices for safety. Since then I have devoted my life to working with children, specifically special needs children. I have held positions in the daycare field as well as being a nanny, a behavioral therapist, and a teacher. I hold a bachelors degree in psychology and a Masters degree in Education from Simmons college in Boston Ma. My concentration was in special education. I feel the important responsibility of helping children grow and develop while they are in my care. I also have two children myself, who are 7 months and 2.5 years old, who participate in my program.

What are the key areas of focus at your daycare?

At Little BIG Dreams Daycare we understand the importance of finding a safe, fun place for your little ones to play and grow. We run a program that consists of music, sensory exploration, arts and crafts and of course free play. Building community within our center is key in the children’s development. Our goal is for the children to feel safe, have fun and know that each one of them is important to our centers community. We do have a daily schedule that we follow everyday. This is implemented so children feel secure in their daily activities and promotes learning, growing and having fun with friends. My primary goal is providing the highest quality of care. Each child will be cared for beyond physical needs, as their mental development is key too. I operate as a child-led engagement program, where the child can feel safe and happy while they are learning at a pace that is right for the child. As a parent myself, I know how hard it is to have to work while also needing a place for your children during the day. My program has an early start time and late pick up to allow for the flexibility that working parents need.

Can you tell us a bit about your home environment?

In Oxford, MA we have a large, finished, and child-proofed basement with a playroom. I believe a home setting for child care is vital to a child’s comfort, as it can already be difficult for a child to be away from their parents. We also have a fenced in backyard that is nice in the warm months. My favorite activities with the children is having dance parties, doing themed arts and crafts (whether it’s seasonal or cultural), and using the senses with water tables, sensory bins, and play-doh.

Here’s the inside scoop from other parents that have worked with Ms. Amy.

Amy and her school are incredible. I am a new Mom and was nervous to send my son to daycare for the first time. Especially after seeing what was out there. My son absolutely loves her and his new friends. Her place is clean and consistent with well crafted (learning development) activities. She is everything you would hope for in a daycare and more!!!! Regular updates with photos, regular fun for the kids in an extremely safe environment. Amy is by the book! We are thrilled to have our son in such an amazing childcare scenario. She is already a part of our extended family. Thanks for being so amazing Amy :)

I am very excited Amy is opening an in-home daycare - this is a great fit for her family. Amy cared for my 2 kids (now 5 and 7) since they were infants. She manages multiple children really well and attends to individual needs and schedules. I have seen Amy care for her 2 kids, my kids, and my sister's two kids and manage beautifully! The only people I trust to care for my kids are my mom and Amy. She is magic!

I consider Amy a child whisperer. With experience in daycares, nannying, public school and special education, she has so much knowledge and practice with children of all ages. She provides a positive attitude, nurturing environment and fun curriculum for all children. I have seen children flourish under her watch and would not hesitate to have her care for my children.

Amy used to nanny for our family. She is just great! You can tell working with kids is her passion. Amy is very creative and works well with groups of children

Rates & Openings

Daycare rates depend on how old your child will be and what your schedule looks like. 5 days / week might get a slight discount, and infant rates are usually more than toddlers’. Finding a spot also depends on age and schedule because each daycare has a limited number of openings for each age range.

Let’s find a really good daycare for you

Your family is unique to you, but some of your questions might not be. 😉 Here’s what most parents want to know when starting out.

What is NeighborSchools?

Hey there, nice to meet you 👋 We’re a new-ish startup that helps new-ish parents find daycare.

We know how hard finding good child care can be - especially for first-time parents. But really good care is what gives you the peace of mind to go back to work and feel confident that your child is getting the stimulation, socialization, and support they need to learn and grow.

So we created NeighborSchools to make this piece of parenthood a whole lot easier. We say “easier” because, let’s be honest, it’s still a big thing to figure out, but working together we can help you find some good options, understand the whole process, and choose a program you’ll feel really good about.

Most first-time parents don’t know exactly what they’re looking for, so we created a simple survey that will ask you questions about your lifestyle, your daily routines, and your preferences for child care. We’ll then share 3 personalized recommendations that we think might be a good fit. We’ll also give you a timeline that maps out when we would suggest you start touring programs, choose a daycare, and pay a deposit to secure a spot. Your timeline is based on when you want to start care - so you set the pace, and you decide when you’ve found the right match.

Nope. Our daycare recommendation service is free for parents. The other half of our business is helping these small-scale daycares with software and services that handle all their administrative tasks, like online contracting, payment processing, and licensing requirements. Before NeighborSchools, services like these were only designed for large corporate child care centers, and part of our mission is to level the playing field for small, independent child care programs. That’s why we picked the name NeighborSchools - we’re all about making child care more personal, more human, and more equitable for the incredible individuals who do this work and care for our children.

Generally, if you’re here, you’re ready. The survey lets us give you 3 recommendations to consider, but it’ll also help you better understand what factors to consider, and what questions to be asking right now. It’s simple things like where you live, your child’s date of birth, when you want to start care, and if you have any preferences around program philosophy or language of instruction. If you’re planning 6+ months ahead, it’s a great way to get started, and if you’re hoping to start daycare in the next 2-4 months, it’s definitely time to get started. Click here to start the survey.

Each program has a limited number of spots for each age range, so we need to know your schedule and child’s age before we can share availability. The survey covers these basics, as well as factors like drop-off and pick-up times to make sure that recommended programs fit your daily routine. Once we know your child’s age and schedule we can share rates and costs as well.

More questions? Text or email - we’re here to help.

We’re online Monday - Friday from 8am to 6pm Eastern.
