I’m a mom of two, who used to work full-time in the healthcare industry and in public health, so I have first-hand experience of what it’s like to find child care. I know how frustrating the process can be! So when I opened Day Street Discovery School, I wanted to create the child care program that I wish I’d been able to find for my own daughters. At Day Street Discovery School we put families first, and we see parents as crucial partners in developing a child care experience that best fits their families’ needs. We do this by developing open lines of communication, so no questions ever go unasked or unanswered. From nap schedules to potty training concerns, I am always willing to collaborate with parents and families to find a solution that works for everyone! I feel very lucky to be able to draw on the passion I have for my children’s education and development, my own experiences with navigating child care, and my professional healthcare and public health knowledge to provide a service that I know is really needed for local families.
Once I had my own daughters, I dove head-first into learning everything I could about childhood development and early education. For my program, I am very inspired by the Montessori and Reggio Emilia styles. I’m a big believer in setting up a developmentally appropriate space and then letting children do as much as possible for themselves. We have a daily schedule, but I’m always willing to adjust plans depending on how the children are feeling that day. We read, create music with rhythmic instruments, engage in imaginative play, and spend time outdoors whenever possible, which is always one of my favorite parts of the day. I think it’s so important for the kids to spend time out in the fresh air, with lots of space to explore.
The main program area is on the ground floor of my spacious home. We have a large, central space for circle time and imaginative play. Then, depending on the children’s interests, we have different activity “nooks.” There’s a reading corner, an arts and crafts table, a snack area, and space for playing instruments. Naptime takes place in a separate, quiet room. Some of my favorite moments of the day take place outdoors in our large, fenced-in backyard. We have outside games and activities, we take advantage of running and playing in the fresh air.

“If the child is not learning the way you are teaching, then you must teach in the way the child learns.”
~ Rita DunnHere’s the inside scoop from other parents that have worked with Ms. Lauren.
Lauren is such a kind and naturally great teacher for kids. She's always thoroughly prepared and very meticulous. My kid loves to be with her and feels comfortable, and I can see that when my kid came back home smiling. I'm also greatful for her that she tries to provide an environment for various/creative play for kids. Plus I love the clean and beautifully prepared house. It's lucky to have met her as a teacher of my kid.
Lauren is forward thinking and plan-oriented. She is super engaged and involved - she's glowing when she's around children! In addition to how good and caring she is with kids, it's important to know that she just knows the right thing to do in different conditions.
Lauren's passion to see children learn, grow and develop into who they were made to be through play and creative activities is inspirational! Her patience and maternal nature really comfort the children she cares for.
She is so kind and warm hearted, my son lights up every time he sees her. She is always professional and gives me updates about his progress. I would definitely recommend checking out her daycare
Daycare rates depend on how old your child will be and what your schedule looks like. 5 days / week might get a slight discount, and infant rates are usually more than toddlers’. Finding a spot also depends on age and schedule because each daycare has a limited number of openings for each age range.

There are 3 home daycares in Leominster. Most care for 6 to 10 children and take both infants and toddlers. All home daycares are licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care, just like preschool centers.

Your family is unique to you, but some of your questions might not be. 😉 Here’s what most parents want to know when starting out.
Most first-time parents don’t know exactly what they’re looking for, so we created a simple survey that will ask you questions about your lifestyle, your daily routines, and your preferences for child care. We’ll then share 3 personalized recommendations that we think might be a good fit. We’ll also give you a timeline that maps out when we would suggest you start touring programs, choose a daycare, and pay a deposit to secure a spot. Your timeline is based on when you want to start care - so you set the pace, and you decide when you’ve found the right match.
Nope. Our daycare recommendation service is free for parents. The other half of our business is helping these small-scale daycares with software and services that handle all their administrative tasks, like online contracting, payment processing, and licensing requirements. Before NeighborSchools, services like these were only designed for large corporate child care centers, and part of our mission is to level the playing field for small, independent child care programs. That’s why we picked the name NeighborSchools - we’re all about making child care more personal, more human, and more equitable for the incredible individuals who do this work and care for our children.
Generally, if you’re here, you’re ready. The survey lets us give you 3 recommendations to consider, but it’ll also help you better understand what factors to consider, and what questions to be asking right now. It’s simple things like where you live, your child’s date of birth, when you want to start care, and if you have any preferences around program philosophy or language of instruction. If you’re planning 6+ months ahead, it’s a great way to get started, and if you’re hoping to start daycare in the next 2-4 months, it’s definitely time to get started. Click here to start the survey.
Each program has a limited number of spots for each age range, so we need to know your schedule and child’s age before we can share availability. The survey covers these basics, as well as factors like drop-off and pick-up times to make sure that recommended programs fit your daily routine. Once we know your child’s age and schedule we can share rates and costs as well.
We’re online Monday - Friday from 8am to 6pm Eastern.
