I am an experienced childcare provider with expertise in Early Childhood Education. Twenty-five years ago, I started working with children as a parent volunteer at my children’s nursery school, and I loved it so much that I became certified as a teacher’s aid at Head Start. From there, I earned my associate degree and then my bachelor’s degree in human services. I’ve worked as a teacher in homes and in traditional classrooms, a social worker with children and families, a family advocate, and an early intervention developmental specialist. I love my work with infants, toddlers, and families, and now it’s time to bring the classroom to my own home.
At Peniel Daycare, I implement all that I know from my experience as a teacher and family worker. I assess children's progress and provide family support. I create an environment of hospitality from the time children arrive all the way through the end of the day. I use a schedule and curriculum to structure the day, and I focus on emotional, physical, and cognitive development of infants, toddlers and Pre-K through everything we do. My curriculum is filled with activities that aid development, urge creativity, and facilitate exploration. I approach language development through reading and using music, creating personalized learning strategies, and motivating kids as individuals. I also focus on supporting parents. It can be hard to help kids develop, and sometimes parents need motivation, too.
My space is very inviting and includes areas that are specifically designed for certain activities. A literacy center includes books in English and Spanish, a writing area, and tactile letters and numbers. Another area is designed for socialization and morning meeting, and a music area has a piano and instruments for kids to play. There’s also space for dramatic play with a kitchen and dolls and other props and an area full of toys and activities like puzzles and blocks. I have little carts for painting and materials with different textures that encourage exploration. Kids will be able to sense that the space is for them, and I think it will make them say, “This is where I want to be!"

“A child must know that they are a miracle, that since the beginning of the world there hasn’t been, and until the end of the world there will not be, another child like them.”
~ Pablo CasalsHere’s the inside scoop from other parents that have worked with Ms. Yolanda.
Yolanda has so much experience with teaching and caring for young children - she knows early child development. She is so warm and just so caring. It goes beyond the kids, too, as she's able to easily connect with parents and families. I've never seen her overwhelmed by children - when something comes up or doesn't go to plan (the grape juice spills!) - she always has a plan B to keep things moving forward!
Daycare rates depend on how old your child will be and what your schedule looks like. 5 days / week might get a slight discount, and infant rates are usually more than toddlers’. Finding a spot also depends on age and schedule because each daycare has a limited number of openings for each age range.

There are 7 home daycares in Lawrence. Most care for 6 to 10 children and take both infants and toddlers. All home daycares are licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care, just like preschool centers.

Your family is unique to you, but some of your questions might not be. 😉 Here’s what most parents want to know when starting out.
Most first-time parents don’t know exactly what they’re looking for, so we created a simple survey that will ask you questions about your lifestyle, your daily routines, and your preferences for child care. We’ll then share 3 personalized recommendations that we think might be a good fit. We’ll also give you a timeline that maps out when we would suggest you start touring programs, choose a daycare, and pay a deposit to secure a spot. Your timeline is based on when you want to start care - so you set the pace, and you decide when you’ve found the right match.
Nope. Our daycare recommendation service is free for parents. The other half of our business is helping these small-scale daycares with software and services that handle all their administrative tasks, like online contracting, payment processing, and licensing requirements. Before NeighborSchools, services like these were only designed for large corporate child care centers, and part of our mission is to level the playing field for small, independent child care programs. That’s why we picked the name NeighborSchools - we’re all about making child care more personal, more human, and more equitable for the incredible individuals who do this work and care for our children.
Generally, if you’re here, you’re ready. The survey lets us give you 3 recommendations to consider, but it’ll also help you better understand what factors to consider, and what questions to be asking right now. It’s simple things like where you live, your child’s date of birth, when you want to start care, and if you have any preferences around program philosophy or language of instruction. If you’re planning 6+ months ahead, it’s a great way to get started, and if you’re hoping to start daycare in the next 2-4 months, it’s definitely time to get started. Click here to start the survey.
Each program has a limited number of spots for each age range, so we need to know your schedule and child’s age before we can share availability. The survey covers these basics, as well as factors like drop-off and pick-up times to make sure that recommended programs fit your daily routine. Once we know your child’s age and schedule we can share rates and costs as well.
We’re online Monday - Friday from 8am to 6pm Eastern.
