Q&A with Ms. Sandra

Tell us about your experience working with young children?

I am a mother of three wonderful children and just recently became a grandmother. I know how hard it can be to find child care that feels right, and I want to be that person parents can trust, especially if the children have special needs. When you come into my home, you are a part of my family. Through my many years of managing and leading teams in a customer service environment, I have been able to capitalize on how to change my techniques of teaching to each individual's specific needs. Everyone learns at different speeds and in different ways. My previous experience helps me teach your child at his or her speed, and I just love learning how each child thinks and learning what's on their minds. One of my favorite games is to begin a story and then ask the kids to continue it. As adults, we’re so preoccupied with life obligations, schedules, grocery lists. But kids are fascinated by all these amazing little things. It really brings you back down to earth, and I feel so lucky that I get to take care of little ones, prepare them for school, and be a part of their lives.

What are the key areas of focus at your daycare?

Daily activities at Sandy’s Tiny Tykes Daycare focus on encouraging the imagination. I have a reading area, art and coloring space, and lots of opportunities to play with different sensory items. My program space has a really comfy rug, so we can have fun playing games on the floor. I think it’s important for kids to have activities that trigger their imagination. I’m so excited to have my own program and the ability to cater to the unique needs of each child. Every child is different, and I’m a firm believer in letting the kids be themselves. I’ve created general schedules for the day, but everything will be tweaked once I’ve met the kids, and I’m able to see what they respond to. I love introducing different activities to explore their little minds. You can see them really thinking and processing, and it’s so rewarding when something clicks.

Can you tell us a bit about your home environment?

Our indoor area consists of a separate reading area with two different bean bags to promote reading and also gives a little one a moment to themselves should they need it. There is a toy kitchen with many accessories, sensory toys, duplos (Large Legos), Foam blocks, stuffed animals, dolls, etc. We also have an infant area that has two playmats, multiple toys that are age appropriate and a very soft rug so your little one is always comfortable. We also have a 50" television should we have a movie day on a rainy day. Outdoors is just as fun with a very large back yard that is completely fenced in with many balls, gardening tool toys, sandboxes, and a water table. We also have a built in sprinkler system for those hot days as well. For nap time, each child will have their own pillow nap sack with their name on it and every infant will have their own crib or pack and play to sleep in as well. Children will be encouraged to take a nap; however, should they not want to, they will be given a book to read quietly while the others sleep.

Here’s the inside scoop from other parents that have worked with Ms. Sandra.

Whenever I need coverage for my infant daughter, Sandy is the first person I call. She's so flexible and always helps me out when my schedule fills up. She'll often go out of her way to come pick up my daughter in a pinch and it's so great to see how excited my daughter gets when she arrives! She builds strong relationships, not just with the kids she cares for but also the families she works with. She's always creating fun activities like the time she put paint in a ziplock bag and it was the new hit toy for that week! My daughter is now 8 months old and she continues to learn something new every day that she's with Sandy.

I met Sandy 12 years ago when she took me under her wing as store manager. She’s simply unbelievable and I would not be where I am today without her guidance. She really enjoys taking people under her wing to help them develop and succeed in life. Sandy’s true passion is for kids and whenever we had children in the store, she was always the first one to get on the floor and start playing! Her compassionate nature and relationship building skills make her a dream to work with.

Rates & Openings

Daycare rates depend on how old your child will be and what your schedule looks like. 5 days / week might get a slight discount, and infant rates are usually more than toddlers’. Finding a spot also depends on age and schedule because each daycare has a limited number of openings for each age range.

Your family is unique to you, but some of your questions might not be. 😉 Here’s what most parents want to know when starting out.

What is NeighborSchools?

Hey there, nice to meet you 👋 We’re a new-ish startup that helps new-ish parents find daycare.

We know how hard finding good child care can be - especially for first-time parents. But really good care is what gives you the peace of mind to go back to work and feel confident that your child is getting the stimulation, socialization, and support they need to learn and grow.

So we created NeighborSchools to make this piece of parenthood a whole lot easier. We say “easier” because, let’s be honest, it’s still a big thing to figure out, but working together we can help you find some good options, understand the whole process, and choose a program you’ll feel really good about.

Most first-time parents don’t know exactly what they’re looking for, so we created a simple survey that will ask you questions about your lifestyle, your daily routines, and your preferences for child care. We’ll then share 3 personalized recommendations that we think might be a good fit. We’ll also give you a timeline that maps out when we would suggest you start touring programs, choose a daycare, and pay a deposit to secure a spot. Your timeline is based on when you want to start care - so you set the pace, and you decide when you’ve found the right match.

Nope. Our daycare recommendation service is free for parents. The other half of our business is helping these small-scale daycares with software and services that handle all their administrative tasks, like online contracting, payment processing, and licensing requirements. Before NeighborSchools, services like these were only designed for large corporate child care centers, and part of our mission is to level the playing field for small, independent child care programs. That’s why we picked the name NeighborSchools - we’re all about making child care more personal, more human, and more equitable for the incredible individuals who do this work and care for our children.

Generally, if you’re here, you’re ready. The survey lets us give you 3 recommendations to consider, but it’ll also help you better understand what factors to consider, and what questions to be asking right now. It’s simple things like where you live, your child’s date of birth, when you want to start care, and if you have any preferences around program philosophy or language of instruction. If you’re planning 6+ months ahead, it’s a great way to get started, and if you’re hoping to start daycare in the next 2-4 months, it’s definitely time to get started. Click here to start the survey.

Each program has a limited number of spots for each age range, so we need to know your schedule and child’s age before we can share availability. The survey covers these basics, as well as factors like drop-off and pick-up times to make sure that recommended programs fit your daily routine. Once we know your child’s age and schedule we can share rates and costs as well.

More questions? Text, email, or - we’re here to help.

We’re online Monday - Friday from 8am to 6pm Eastern.
