Daycare in Haverhill, MA: Julie Daly was born and raised in Haverhill, MA, where she currently resides and has operated her family child care program in since 1998. Julie’s journey working with children began in high school, when she took a child study course. The class consisted of assisting the preschool and kindergarten teachers, and Julie fell in love with working with children then. She went on to pursue and earn a degree in Early Childhood Education. Before opening her program in 1998, she worked for John Hancock. She then had her two children, now ages 26 and 28, and saw that child care was an issue. She decided to open her own program because she would be able to be home with her children, and she knew there was a need for it and, with her background, she could bring a high quality program to Haverhill.

Julie says she loves working with children because of their innocence, willingness to try new things, and their curiosity. She thoroughly enjoys teaching the children, observing their play and advancing them to the next level of play. Her favorite part of teaching the children, she says, is that “while they’re just having fun, I know what they’re learning – whether it’s fine motor, social emotional skills – I love knowing what and how they’re learning.” Julie’s goal with her program is that the children leave her home ready for school, in such a way that they’re kind, empathetic, and compassionate individuals. She believes social skills are incredibly important, and wants to make sure the children have respect for themselves and each other before entering into school.

Her home is set up into different sections for various activities. There are dedicated areas for reading, play, blocks and manipulative, as well as a table in the kitchen set up for both meals and arts and crafts. Her favorite activity with the children is painting with different mediums. They also do yoga every single day! She emphasizes that her program is a little family. “We work together to complete goals,” she says, “but I also work individually with the children to get them to the next level of play or grow developmentally.” Something else unique about Julie’s program is that it is mostly natural-based. Instead of plastic and flashing lights toys, she tries to focus on books and outdoor play. The children go outside every day in order to experience nature fully.

As well as being a licensed family child care provider through the EEC for 21 years and having a degree in Early Childhood Education, Julie is also a certified preschool teacher through the EEC, certified in first aid and CPR, has her Child Development Associate (CDA), is an Early HeadStart Educator, a member of the National Childcare Association (NCCA), and a Safe Sleep Ambassador. She has dedicated her life to working with children.

Partnering with NeighborSchools has also been exciting for Julie. “Everyone is so enthusiastic!” She exclaims. Having had her program for so long, she has gotten quite used to it and meeting new people in the field is encouraging. “It is nice to be met with such support, kindness, comfort, and excitement.”

Under Massachusetts law, Julie’s daycare in Haverhill MA has been open as a licensed Family Child Care through the Massachusetts’ Development of Early Education and Care (EEC) since 1998.
