A Flourish of Fun in Ms. Dinusha’s Daycare, North Grafton

Ms. Dinusha’s recent path with professional work with children began in a home daycare where she was a certified assistant for a year. While her own daycare in North Grafton is new as of 2019, she has been certified through the EEC since 2016. She went on to work in an after school program for another year before beginning a position as a preschool teacher. Nine or so months into her preschool teaching, the institution had to decrease hours for some of the employees. Ms. Dinusha knew she wanted to be working with children all day long, and so with this she thought it would be best to start her own daycare.

Ms. Dinusha has always loved children: “It is both happy and hectic at the same time, but it is a joy anyway,” she says. She loves to teach them and loves watching them learn. She particularly enjoys the milestones when the kids recite a lesson back to her and she knows they have achieved another level of learning. Ms. Dinusha and the children do a variety of activities during her program hours. She tries to find different exercises every day in order to keep them always learning something new.. She enjoys outdoor fun, as well as playing with blocks, cooking, writing, reading, teaching the children sign language, and using clay. The children do yoga, too! Ms. Dinusha’s favorite activities, though, are arts and crafts and dancing with the kids.

Ultimately, Ms. Dinusha has two goals for her daycare. First, she wants to ensure parents that their children are in a safe environment where they can be happy, healthy, and receiving an education. Second, she wants to make sure the kids are prepared to go to school. To this end, she really emphasizes the value of reading and writing. One of Ms. Dinusha’s most memorable experiences in her work with children is when a young girl came into her care who had difficulty with speaking and walking. The two of them bonded through play and the child was able to open up to Ms. Dinusha and come out of her shell. These successes mean everything to Ms. Dinusha.

In Ms. Dinusha’s home, the entire ground level is dedicated to the child care program. It is bright and inviting, with dedicated areas for reading, writing, sleeping, and eating. She is also accessible by public transportation!

NeighborSchools has been incredibly supportive to Ms. Dinusha and she’s found their resources to be most informative and helpful. “Everyone is so nice, helpful, and I know I can trust them,’ she says. She is excited to have the support in spreading the word about her program and bringing in new enrollments.

Under Massachusetts law, Ms. Ms. Dinusha’s program has been open as a licensed Family Child Care through the Massachusetts’ Development of Early Education and Care (EEC) since 2019. The EEC mandates strict licensing requirements, which include background checks, home inspections, and safety trainings and certifications. By partnering with NeighborSchools, Ms. Dinusha will continue to receive expert advice in marketing and operating her business.
