Leominster, MA:  Ms. Lauren is the Provider behind Leominster’s new daycare: Day Street Discovery School. She is also a mom of two, who understands the challenges of finding dependable and convenient child care.

“I am drawing on the passion I have for my children’s education and development to provide a service that I know is really needed for families.”

“Between my two daughters, we’ve used almost every style of child care,” says Lauren. “In-home daycares, child care centers, nannies, you name it. So I know what parents go through, trying to find an option that meets their needs and feels like the right fit for their family. It can be a real challenge.”

Lauren, who previously worked for a local health department and in nursing and emergency healthcare, says that these experiences have motivated her to open her own home daycare in Leominster—a daycare that local families can rely on. “I want parents to understand that their involvement is crucial,” says Lauren. “I am drawing on the passion I have for my children’s education and development to provide a service that I know is really needed for families.”

“At Day Street Discovery School, building trust and establishing open lines of communication is a top priority. I want parents to know that they can come to me with questions and concerns, and we will work together to find solutions that work for their family. Whether we’re helping a child find an effective nap schedule or encouraging potty training, I want parents to feel very active in their kids’ days.”

After having children of her own, Lauren became passionate about studying childhood development and learning about different approaches to early education. Guided by her studies—and informed by her past experiences in health care—her daycare will be largely influenced by the Montessori and Reggio Emilia styles. “I’m a big believer in setting up a developmentally appropriate space and then letting children do as much as possible for themselves. We have a reading nook, an arts and crafts table, and an area for playing musical instruments, singing, and dancing. And there is open space for imaginative play.”

Lauren says the daycare will also spend time in her spacious, fenced-in backyard. “My daughters always love playing outside,” says Lauren. “It is one of my favorite parts of the day. I think it’s so important for the kids to spend time out in the fresh air, with lots of space to explore.”

The NeighborSchools Value

As a NeighborSchools Provider, Lauren has had access to a network of experienced Providers and business experts in securing her license and launching her program. Family Child Care Providers are licensed through Massachusetts’s Department of Early Education and Care (EEC). Per state law, Providers must complete trainings on childhood development, health, and safety; undergo a thorough home inspection and three-part background check, and maintain current pediatric CPR & First Aid certificates. More information about Massachusetts’s FCC licensing requirements can be found on the EEC’s website. Once the Day Street Discovery School opens, NeighborSchools will continue to support Lauren with marketing, recruitment, and other business services.

I’m honestly having so much fun planning my program and getting ready to open a daycare in Leominster. Thanks to my professional and personal experiences, I am creating something that will not only be a wonderful opportunity for my own family, it will also provide a unique service to other local families.
